Mass Effect 2 Minimize

Bioware’s release of Mass Effect 3 has been a huge success so far. Though we’ve yet to release a review for the game, It’s safe to say that Shepherd's final mission has all the right pieces to deliver an epic experience. However, not all of Mass Effect’s new modes and features appear to have been added with the same level of care and dedication seen throughout the game.

One of its most highlighted features is starting to look like one of its most ‘Tacked-On’ features. Despite Microsoft’s claims that Mass Effect 3 is better with Kinect, Casey Hudson  while on GameSpot’s show The Hot Spot’, revealed some interesting details on how Kinect was added to the game.

It has been said that Kinect is really easy to implement, and Mass Effect's 3's use of the feature seems to have been added as a nice bonus, not as a new revolutionary way to play. During the interview, Casey reveals that Kinect’s integration wasn’t planned from the start, but does says that using Kinect feels more natural and organic than the controller. To see how the games producer explains Kinect's use with ME3, start the trailer above at 31:35.

Should I Play This With Kinect?

Casey expresses his thoughts on many of Mass Effects 3's features both old and new. His explanation on how Kinect works is also very informative. He does say that it’s not some type of gimmick for the game. He also explained how one of the teams programers implemented the entire feature by himself; possibly a testament to how easy Kinect integration is. However, what does it take for one guy to add a feature like Kinect, to a game of this magnitude- the thought is both impressive and scary.

Bioware did skipped the R&D process while adding Kinect to Mass Effect 3, which could also mean adding Kinect is really to do, or... it could be a sign that things were done really quickly. I'm more inclined to believe the latter. After watching the interview, Kinect's integration with Mass Effect 3, though it sounds cool, seems like more of a nice thing to do, but nothing genre defining.

Though we intend to do so, we have yet to put Microsoft’s claims of Mass Effect 3 being better with Kinect to the test. If you’ve played Mass Effect 3 with Kinect, how would you say it turn out – Better, or No-Better. As cool as Kinect is, Microsoft's tag line "Better With Kinect" is looking more like a paid publishing effort, as opposed to truthfully being an innovative way play. I’m personally questioning the better part, leave your ME3 Kinect opinion in the comments below.
