As the privileged early beta testers post their head2head impression, and screenshot comparisons of EA's epic new shooter. The truth behind which version of the game is the best has already been revealed by EA. In an interview with EA's Marketing Manager, Matt Pruitt, he confirmed to us that the console version of the game wouldn't have the same quality as the PC version. He also explained why EA had only showed the PC version at most events.

Matt went on to explain that EA decided to shown the PC version of the game first because they wanted to showcase Frostbite 2.0 at it's best. At the time of the interview, he noted that the console version would be revealed later, stating that they wanted to show the best looking version of the game on all platforms. It seems DICE's reveal of the console version happened with the same concern for quality. The PS3's reveal got the epic Late Night with Jimmy Fallon treatment, while the 360 reveal happened via a trailer released online. The 360 reveal trailer was one that showed Frostbite 2.0 at night, which doesn't showcase what the engine can do using their new lighting techniques.

Now that we've seen both console version in action, the truth about quality has become more evident. Aside from a more publicized media release for the PS3's  Battlefield 3, the final verdict on which console is going to have the best graphics and gameplay came from EA's CEO, John Riccitiello. In an interview with Reuters, Riccitiello stated that the PS3 version of Battlefield 3 will look and play better than the 360 Version of Modern Warfare 3. Modern Warfare typically looks better on 360. He also went on to say that Battlefield 3 on PC would be better than Modern Warfare 3 on PC.

“It’s the beginning of the war and (Kotick) recognizes they’re going to be threatened. We’re going to have a clash of the titans this fall. The very fact that he’s trying to cast doubt on our game is a perfect example of how we got his goat. In terms of where this goes, we think our PS3 game is better than their Xbox game and our PC game is better than their PC game. If that’s all he’s got to say, it’s obviously going to evaporate as we launch all three. If you went to our press conference, you saw the PS3 footage and the Xbox footage. If Bobby thinks that is PC footage, he’s in real trouble.”EA CEO John Riccitiello - Reuters

John's comparing of the PS3 version of Battlefield 3 to the 360 version of Call of Duty raised some questions on the 360's quality. Why wouldn't he compare a 360 game to a 360 game. He did make a parallel comparison with the PC version of Battlefield 3, but deiced to give the PS3 version the edge on the console comparison. From what we've played, his comparisons seems to add up. Which would make sense, given his company is making the game.

The PS3 version of Battlefield 3 looks very close in graphics and gameplay to the PC version, while the 360's lower resolution textures are slightly more noticeable in well-lit areas. However, Battlefield 3 on 360 is still the best looking shooter on the Xbox, and that says a lot given the release of Gears of War 3. Both 360 and PS3 fans have a lot to look forward to in the shooter genre this fall. If you haven't already, download the Battlefield 3 beta, which went live today. It's available on all platforms.
