Tomorrow Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 releases,  and so start of the FPS sales war. A couple of weeks ago we saw the release of Battlefield 3, and the first shot was fired when EA's new shooter  secured the top spot on the sales charts, and for two weeks in a row. Tomorrow Activision fires back with the launch of Modern Warfare 3, but will the return fire be enough to shoot down the high ground EA & Dice have already secured.

The determining factors in this war will be the gamers who decide to purchase the third version of Modern Warfare. The fact is, FPS fans usually nestle up to the shooter they’re going to play over the next year. Once a choice is made few make a change to a different shooter, and deiced to play that one FPS until the next version is released. Now that there are two shooters worthy of your commitment to prestige, which one should you buy.

as gamers we have a continued addiction to the best of. We can’t help but long for the best graphics, gameplay, and features in every game we buy. When looking at the fight between Call of Duty: MW3 and Battlefield 3 its clear that one game has a few more best of features in its corner, but is it enough to earn it a win. Graphically, its no question that Battlefield 3 is a better looking game. DICE has done some amazing work with their newest version of the Frostbite engine. Though Modern Warfare 3 looks good by today’s standards, it can’t out perform an evolution it wasn’t expecting. What really makes Battlefield 3’s graphics exceptional is not just how good they look, but the fact that you can destroy them-which looks even better. In multiplayer this creates some of the best moments. When you’re able to kill someone with debris from an explosion, or blow a hole in a wall to escape death, the added destrucion makes for an enjoyable experience.

With regard to gameplay, Modern Warfare 3 has one of the best gaming engines around. The engine has had a number of years to be polished and perfected, and that polish continues in MW3. With the same proven formula of the past, we get a satisfying delivery in the present. Fans of Modern Warfare 3 will love the new polish added to the game, but the static maps, and overly familiar menus, weapons, and gameplay, makes the game feel like you’re retracing old steps; even if they're exteamly well done. The freshness that the series needs only shows up in the single player campaign, and with the addition of a few new modes in multiplayer; most of which that have already been done in other shooters. though it's not revolutationary, Modern Warfare 3 dose have a number of shining new additions.

These are seen in the small touches added to improve on the almost perfect FPS gaming engine, and in a single player campaign that’s worth playing more than once. Unfortunately, after experiencing the destruction in Battlefield 3 the world in Modern Warfare 3 can feel a little less modern, and a little more pasted together. One of Modern Warfare 3’s biggest new additions is its Call of Duty Elite subscription. A social networking platform for the game that allows you to change your weapons load-outs from a mobile app, and even see which of your friends are playing Call of Duty Online via Facebook.

The Call Of Duty Elite Premium Subscription will award you with automatic downloads of the monthly DLC for nine months, among a number of other things, all for just 49.99. Battlefield has a similar feature but it’s not as inclusive as MW3’s Elite platform. With a stronger social present and a solid shooting experience is this year’s release of Modern Warfare, is it enough to make it worthy of your time, and more importantly your money. Well, the truth is, Yes! But, there's a discloser. The single player campaign in Modern Warfare 3 shouldn’t be missed, however, if you getting MW3 requires you to let go of Battlefield 3, I’d highly suggest you stay on the path of destruction with DICE’s latest shooter. Once you’ve completed the single player in MW3, the multiplayer, though satisfying, will likely not hold up to what’s happing on the Battlefield with Frostbite 2.0.

Activision has released another great sequel to the Call of Duty franchise. What they didn’t do is evolve the simulation FPS genre beyond what’s already done. Because of their comfortable approach to development, they have allowed DICE to claim the next evolution of shooters with their release of Battlefield 3. Keep an eye out for our Call of Duty review in a few days
