Survival seems to be growing theme for games releasing in 2012. For Ubisofts title, which has been in development for quite some time now, the rules of survival have changed. What those rules are and how they all fit together is something still hidden behind the cloud of dust that has cloaked the details on this post-apocalyptic adventure. However, recently the dust has started to settle on ‘I’Am Alive’, and here are a few details we’ve uncovered regarding Ubisoft’s survival adventure. As the world gives way to plumes of smoke it’s important that you don’t breathe the dust. Fresh air is in shorter supply, but is also good for your heath meter. Though 'I ‘Am Alive' will feature enough villains, mostly in the form of other surviving humans, to keep the games action entertaining, much of what players will need to survive is the ruined urban terrain.
The biggest enemy happens to be the dust and fumes created by the destruction of the buildings that once made up the city. It's required that players navigate the city to find useful items which can be traded or used to aid in your survival. In order to survive a gas mask is necessary, the gas masks will prevent you from being killed by the toxic smoke, but doesn’t allow you stay in it for overly extended periods of time. To escape the smoke, climbing to the top of dilapidated buildings will provide access to the world’s most precious commodity, fresh air, which will bring with it the regeneration of your health. A map, a flashlight, and any weapons you can find are invaluable objects for survival. The game offers a number of locations, most of which remain unknown, but all of them require the use of a map. Navigating the city using the maps is only a part of what it takes to get around. Because the city’s destroyed, the maps aren’t as accurate as they once were. They will mostly act as a guides to your destination but you’ll need to figure out the other parts of the puzzle as you go along.

One change that seems to have taken place with “I ‘Am Alive” is the new focus on the third person perspective. Though Ubisof has yet to confirm if the game has become exclusively third person, all of the newly released trailers point to a third person adventure, and have not shown any new hints that the FPS survival elements are making a return. Much of the shooting action is still done from a first person perspective, but everything else, such as melee and traversal now look to be fully executed in the third person. One of the games deeper features is its social interaction, not in terms of using things like Facebook & and twitter, but through the communication with other characters in the game. As the main character, you’re trying to survive the destruction and protect a young girl that reminds you of your daughter.
As you navigate the world and search of useful things, some of what you find will not necessarily prove useful to you, but can be given to other characters in the world who will remember your kind gesture and could end up helping you later on down the line. Ubisoft is still keeping most of the games secrets lock away, but as the release inches ever closer, you can expect more to get revealed on 'I’Am Alive'. For now you can enjoy the latest reveal in the trailer above.
