In 2011 we saw a huge number of Triple-A releases hit the market. Some went on to sell millions of copies, while others only moved a few hundred thousand. Because we know that selling the most doesn’t mean you have the best quality, here are a few games that didn’t exzactly break sales records, but whose quality deserved your attention in 2011.
Resistance 3 –
One of the biggest improvements on a franchise, Insomniac brings the best version of Resistance with its final installment. Unfortunately this version of the game has sold the least amount of games in the series. Why sales of the game are lower this time around is still unknown, but what we do know is that Resistance 3 has one of the best single player campaigns to be featured in a first person shooter releasing this year.
Hunted The Demons Forge –
Though this is not a Tripple-A RPG it is one of the best Action/RPG’s to release in 2011. It's also one of few co-op Action/RPG’s releasing in 2011. With an almost Gears Of War like cover system, and all the fast action of most adventure games, Hunted the Demon's Forge is exzactly what it promised to be; a great RPG story placed within some intense action. Once you're done playing all the big shooters and RPG’s released in 2011, this should be the next great game you play, your journey won't be met with regret.
Infamous 2 –
Releasing just before E3 2011, Infamous 2 took Coles adventures through some cool changes. Loaded with some new powers and a gorgeous new city to save, Sony’s new take on good & evil had Infamous bring some of the best open world action to gaming in 2011. Infamous is one of 2011's best third person action adventures, having sold less than its sequel, this is still one game PlayStation fans should be sure to put some time into.
Two Worlds 2 –
The first game in this action RPG series was released before its time, and ended up being loaded with bugs and glitches at launch. Though the core gameplay mechanic was solid, in many was the first Two Worlds was at times unplayable. However, with the sequel the game has become one of the best RPG’s to releases. Selling less than five hundred thousand copies since its release back in January of 2011, its clear many have missed out on the improvements made to the game. Because the game released almost a year ago, those looking for a great adventure can get a good deal on this great PRG at almost any retailer.
White Knight Chronicles II –
The first game in this RPG series form Level 5 was hit with some stiff reviews, and the follow-up didn’t get any free passes either. Now a new adventure with all the features and design found in the original, White Knight Chronicles II has had much added to some of the evolutions that took place with its original design. The multiplayer in White Knight Chronicles II is one of the best features in the game, it's also one of the best uses of multiplayer seen in an RPG. White Knight Chronicles is one of few major RPG releases still using the classic formula that made the RPG genre what it is today. When compared to other RPG’s on the market, this game feels and plays different, but it's also a rich adventure featuring the classic style known to most fans of RPG's. This should be one of the games RPG fans put some time into, you won’t regret it if you do.
Lord of The Rings War in The North -
Warner Bros’ use of the Lord of The Rings License for games has not always been the best. In fact, it’s been one the worst uses of a license for a major franchise. With most of the games that have released within the Lord of The Rings brand, there have been a number of quality issues dulling the hopes for a great adventure back to Middle Earth. With Lord of the rings War in the North, for the first time since the years the series appeared as an RTS, a quality experience has finally come to the gaming franchise. Labeled as an Action/RPG, Lord of The Rings War in The North has the best of both worlds. It has all the depth and leveling found in an RPG, along with all the over the top hack-&-slash action seen in the best third person action adventure titles. For a game that received mostly average reviews from the critics, its user reviews have been mostly positive. This could easily be the most overlooked game released this past year, and one that most fans of the action genre would thoroughly enjoy.
